DNS Namespace

Did you know that the entire DNS namespace is represented by a single period. The is called the ROOT DOMAIN. This period is located at the far right of the Full Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Many of us including myself do not enter it, it is just assumed or not known at all.

Example

www.google.com and www.google.com. (<–Noticed the period) represents the same FQDN.

Go ahead and try it for yourself.

I found a website that takes social networking to a new level. It is called iminlikewithyou. Although the name might turn people away, the overall design and concept is great.

It is a dating site unlike other dating sites. In Iilwy, users create games that other users can bid on. There is a “in game” point system to “bid” on games. At the end of the game, the top 5 bidders are eligible to be picked as the winner by the game owner. From here, the game owner and the winners become contacts who can contact each other through the site messaging system.

This system works great since the user can pick whoever he or she wants and does not get spammed.

Hello everyone

Here I am sitting in a new class called Supporting Network Server Infrastructure (INTW1353). This class is about installing, configuring, managing, and supporting a network infrastructure. This class should have a lot of information I can share with you. Throughout the semester, I will be posting tips in different server technologies. Monster.com Accounts Compromised!

Many people use Monster.com to look for JOBS. According to an article in the BBC, monster.com suffered an online attack that led to personal data belonging to hundreds of thousands of users be uploaded to a remote server. Remember that this data contains information that can be used for phishing attacks against you. If you have an account with monster.com, be aware of phishing emails. One scenario can be of a company emailing you about a certain job and is asking for more information to be emailed back to them. DO THE RESEARCH FIRST. Make sure the company is legitimate. Remember, never give your information over email to anyone.

Another very important scenario is if you get an email from monster.com asking you to download a Job seeker tool; DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT. According to Symantec, this such tool can encrypt all your data on you computer and then leave a ransom note asking for something in return for the decryption of you files. Once again be careful and be aware.

46 Million Nokia-branded batteries at risk
